Giant Sea Serpent Skeleton Installed in French River

So you’ve taken your family down to the beach for a nice day at the seaside. You look out to the water, and notice an ungodly sight. The skeleton of an enormous sea serpent has washed up and is grinning evilly at you. Yet there’s something stranger still about it, an odd metallic sheen that suggests it could be less than natural. Maybe robotic. Maybe alien. Definitely evil. And it is happy to see you.

This is the sight that awaits you at the Loire River where it empties into the Bay of Biscay near Nantes, France. Artist Huang Yong Ping has designed and installed this unusual and enormous beach décor. It’s not modelled on a real sea serpent however, which is fantastic, because that would be a whole new level of horrifying given they live exclusively in myths and legends. That strange metal colour that makes it look almost robotic? Yeah, the sculpture’s made of aluminium. And we’re pretty certain there are no circuits in there; it’s almost certainly just a dead hunk of metal.

It does look pretty badass though. Tourism will certainly be on the up in the area as people flock to see the beast that may one day destroy them. Who wouldn’t be rushing to swim alongside the mythical serpent? Okay, but who doesn’t want to go gaze upon this incredible installation? Lit up at nightfall (above) it looks majestic. And like a scene from the opening credits of a horror movie about an alien invasion.
