But don't worry! It was all a lie.
Buckfast is a popular choice for binge drinkers since it's relatively cheap, highly caffeinated and, let's face it, pretty darn tasty (Ed, writer is Scottish btw), in a sickeningly sweet, hangover-guaranteeing kind of way.
However, how much the last crate of it would go for on ebay will remain a mystery we will not be solving any time soon.
On Thursday 23rd January, the 'Alaway Gadvertiser', a Facebook page which gives up to the minute reports on goings on in the Galaway area, decided to spice things up a bit by sparking panic among fans of the tonic wine.
They posted an announcement regarding the discontinuation of Buckfast and how there would only be a further 12 shipments of the product to the UK and Ireland.
They delivered a fake statement from the Abbot of Buckfast Abbey, where the tonic wine is brewed, reading:
"Due to increasing shipping & manufacturing costs we regretfully announce the closure of our main Winery.
The main product that will be affected is our fortified tonic wine, Buckfast.
As it stands, there are only about 12 full shipments left to be distributed across the UK & Ireland.
Following this, there will be no more 'Buckfast' wine produced."
Over 2000 boozers the UK over took to the comments on Facebook and Twitter in panic, many people claiming that this couldn't possibly be true as Glasgow alone could cover the extra cost in a night without breaking a sweat. Scotland is very fond of the old tonic wine, after all, and it's loss would would create a significant space in the drinks cabinet of the nation.
But fear not, Yahoo has saved the day by revealing the deception to everyone who fell for it.
So, party people, don't panic! Your Bucky will be back on the shelves on Monday, even if you feel like you drank the worlds supply of the stuff over the weekend.
