A group of students at a Jager Rocks night set a new record
for most Jagerbombs consumed. With Jagerbombs at £1 each, the group hit 4764
Jagerbombs, breaking existing records.
This “achievement” is somewhat underwhelming though; this
group of students was actually an 800 strong crowd. That averages at only 6
Jagerbombs per person. Obviously, from the pub’s perspective it’s still a great
night for sales.
Inevitably this hit the media with the typical shouts of
danger and irresponsibility. And naturally some questionable statistics. The
averages reported say 6 bombs per person, or 18 units. We’ve checked those
facts with some former bar staff, and we can safely assure you that that’s
bullshit. A Jagerbomb falls in at only one unit, not three, so we’re looking
more at six units per person, which is not over the weekly recommended limits
like it’s being claimed. Yes it’s still over the daily limit, and there’s a
good chance people had other drinks so hit a higher number. But the media is
only reporting on the Jager-drinking and they’re kind of talking crap.
Basically, this story boils down to “some students went out
and had a few drinks. People overreacted quite a lot”.
