That's right. Wolverine himself is trading his claws for a sword as he takes up the role of Blackbeard in Warner Bros. new adaptation of Peter Pan.
Jackman will take up the role of the infamous pirate a prequel to Scottish writer J M Barrie's classic novel, to be titled "Pan". He is to be the villain of the film, the corruptible influence that turns Hook, confirmed to be played by Tron: Legacy's Garret Hedland, from a simple sailor into the tyrant of the sea we all know and love to hate.
Due for release June 26th 2015, this is set to be the first of a potential (unconfirmed) three different re-workings of the story.
While this is bound to be a departure from the Disney version we are used to seeing, it will be interesting to see how the two, who usually play the heroes, embark on the dark road of villainism. But the Aussie hunk was not the first choice for role. Apparently director Joe Wright (Pride and Prejudice, 2005, Hanna, 2011) originally wanted Skyfall's Oscar winning bad guy, Javier Bardem to play the bearded swashbuckler. But Bardem was too busy catering to the every whim of his wife, painfully beautiful Spanish actress Penelope Cruise...
