Yesterday the Pope released two peace doves from a Vatican balcony. The symbolic birds were immediately set upon by an angry looking crow and an opportunist seagull. One of the Doves was repeatedly pecked and did not make it. The other, although severely damaged, managed to break free and escape minus most of its feathers. The irony was not lost on the tens of thousands of worshiper watching from St Peters Square.
