American Apparel's butthole advert

American Apparel; the people behind those mannequins with pubes. And now they're back with a new "edgy" and controversial ad campaign.

This one takes the form of a picture, of a girl riding a bike. It's intending to advertise the skirt and panties she's wearing. How did they decide to pull this off? They thought a nice closeup of her ass would work. Okay, it seems reasonable so far.

Sure, the skirt is super short so you can see literally her entire ass (making it a pretty ineffective piece of clothing), but that's workable. You can't really see the panties much, it's pretty much a white strip. But that's okay, because neither of the items of clothing is actually grabbing your gaze.

No, your gaze is held by the side-butthole clearly visible in the dead centre of the image. Because nothing says "buy our clothes" like "look! poop hole!". Here it is:

Just a note to American Apparel, the general point of advertising is to get people to buy your clothes. Not to see just how far you can go and still get away with it. If Ann Summers website still airbrushes the nipples off their models I'm pretty certain you should be photoshopping buttholes out. Please?
